• Is Therapy Right For Me?

Wondering if Therapy is right for you?

Is therapy right for me?……………..If you are reading this post then I know you’ve asked yourself that question many times.  Another question might be:  Should I be seeking out therapy?

Self doubt overwhelms you and you wonder why you would consider telling a stranger your problems for a fee. Does that sound right to you?

    Fear and Doubt

I understand how scary it can be to seek help. Let me tell you… You aren’t alone. I also understand your question of whether there will ever be relief from your problems.

    What Therapy Can Do

Therapy can help you through all of those feelings of doubt, hopelessness, and fear. Talking to an objective professional who doesn’t have a close relationship with you can provide a fresh perspective you might not have thought of before. Therapy is also a no judgement zone.

Below I will identify the risks and benefits of therapy for you so you can make an informed decision about whether or not therapy is right for you.

    Risks and Benefits of Therapy

Psychotherapy has both benefits and risks.

Risks may include experiencing uncomfortable feelings, such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness and helplessness, because the process of psychotherapy often requires discussing the unpleasant aspects of your life.

However, psychotherapy has been shown to have benefits for individuals, couples, and families who undertake it. Therapy often leads to a significant reduction in feelings of distress, increased satisfaction in interpersonal relationships, greater personal awareness and insight, increased skills for managing stress and resolutions to specific problems.

    Your Active Participation

But, there are no guarantees about what will happen. Psychotherapy requires a very active effort on your part. In order to be most successful, you will have to work on things we discuss outside of sessions.

    My Role in Therapy

I’m here to support you and guide you through the process. while you might be tempted to come to therapy for a quick fix,  I can’t in good faith lie to you and say Therapy will quickly fix all of your problems. However, therapy can certainly help you make sense of what is going on in your life and provide you some goals and long term solutions to your problems.
